The National Stadium
History
22 July 1955
Opening of the Decade Stadium, 11 years after proclaiming the Manifesto of the Polish Committee of National Liberation (PKWN). The opening match between Warsaw and Stalingrod (Katowice). The match result was 1:2.
3 November 1957
Match Poland - Finland with the result 4:0 and record attendance of 90,000 spectators.
8 September 1968
The most tragic event in the history of the Stadium. During the nation-wide harvest festival Ryszard Siwiec immolates himself on the grandstand to protest against the Warsaw Pact Invasion of the Czechoslovakia.
1983
The last sports event at the Decade Stadium. The Stadium starts to go into ruin. Renovation or rebuilding is found cost ineffective. In that year the Pope John Paul II says mass for almost 100,000 people.
1989
The Stadium is leased to the Damis company for trade purposes. The company subsequently sets up a fair "Jarmark Europa" at the stadium's seating. The fair, with ca. 5,000 businesses, becomes one of the biggest markets in Europe.
30 September 2007
The "Jarmark Europa" bazaar stays open till that day, when the contract between the Chief Sports Centre and the Damis company - which ran the market - expires. The traders have to leave the Stadium after the construction works started.

The conceptual study of the National Stadium (the study is prepared by JSK Architekci) is presented.
15 May 2008
The preparatory pile driving begins - the last stage of the National Stadium soil research.
18 June 2008
The Minister of Sport and Tourism, Mirosław Drzewiecki, and chairman of Narodowe Centrum Sportu (National Sports Centre), Michał Borowski, submit the Governor of the Mazowieckie Province the construction design and documents needed for granting the National Stadium construction permit.
30 June 2008
Przetarg na palowanie; termin składania ofert. Do przetargu zgłosiło się 10 oferentów. Zakończenie procedury przetargowej – początek września.

The Governor of the Mazowieckie Province, Jacek Kozłowski, submits the National Stadium construction permit to the Minister of Sport and Tourism.
12 August 2008
9 firm i konsorcjów otrzymuje zaproszenie do drugiej części przetargu na I etap budowy wraz z dokumentacją.
8 September 2008
Results of the tender for the first stage of the National Stadium construction are officially announced. Pol-Aqua S.A. Engineering Company selected as the contractor of the first stage of the National Stadium.
26 September 2008
Podpisanie umowy na I etap budowy Stadionu Narodowego z firmą POL AQUA. Umowa przewiduje 200 dni na wykonanie prac tego etapu.
7 October 2008
Commencement of the first stage works of the National Stadium construction. Over 100 special and transport units and nearly 200 employees are at the construction site.

The tender commission qualifies 6 consortia for the second part of the tender for the second stage of the construction of the National Stadium along with associated infrastructure.
17 February 2009
Six consortia are provided with invitations, along with documents, to submit detailed offers for the second stage of the National Stadium construction. Works carried out within the frame of the first stage are one month ahead of schedule. To avoid any construction stoppages, it is decided to order Pol-Aqua S.A to carry out extra works.
10 March 2009
The first stage of the National Stadium construction is completed. The final acceptance is carried out.
25 March 2009
The final acceptance of the first stage construction works is completed. Additional works at construction site of the National Stadium are carried out.
9 April 2009
Tender offers for the General Contractor of the second stage of the National Stadium construction are opened. The lowest price for the National Stadium construction was offered by the consortium of ALPINE BAU DEUTSCHLAND AG, ALPINE BAU GmbH, ALPINE Construction Polska Sp. z o.o., Hydrobudowa Polska S.A. and PBG S.A.
15 April 2009
The consortium of ALPINE BAU DEUTSCHLAND AG, ALPINE BAU GmbH, ALPINE Construction Polska Sp. z o.o., Hydrobudowa Polska S.A. and PBG S.A. won the tender for the General Contractor of the National Stadium construction in Warsaw. As per the contract, the second stage works are to be carried out within 24 months.

The contract between Narodowe Centrum Sportu (National Sports Centre) and the General Contractor of the National Stadium construction in Warsaw – the consortium of ALPINE BAU DEUTSCHLAND AG, ALPINE BAU GmbH, ALPINE Construction Polska Sp. z o.o., Hydrobudowa Polska S.A. and PBG S.A. is concluded.

October 7th, 2009, the ceremony of setting the Cornerstone for the construction of the National Stadium in Warsaw took place.
18 February 2010
18 February - the 500th day of construction of the Warsaw National Stadium.
June 2011
The scheduled end of the construction - The National Stadium opens.
